Annual Fund

Dear Friend,

The Auglaize/Mercer Counties Family YMCA is something very special. We’ve been committed to building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities for the last 20 years. We do this through providing programs and services that reflect the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility.

Your help is needed. Annual contributions, which equal 10% of the Y’s budget, are needed to help keep Y programs strong and affordable. In addition, the “Sustaining Our Mission campaign will assure that financial assistance is available to needy families and individuals so that no one is denied participation in any YMCA program due to a lack of ability to pay.

Would you please consider supporting the efforts of our volunteers with your gift to the YMCA’s “Sustaining Our MissionCampaign? You can even designate where you want your dollars to go. Your financial support could make all the difference. Help the Auglaize/Mercer Counties Family YMCA build strong kids, strong families, and a strong community!

Sincerely,

Allen Baskett

YMCA HERITAGE CLUB

ENDOWING THE YMCA

Remembering the YMCA in your Estate Planning

The YMCA needs you now….and in the future.

The YMCA has been providing programs and services to the Auglaize and Mercer Counties area since 1983. If we are to continue to build on this proud tradition, we must have future funding to insure that the YMCA will be able to meet the challenge of providing additional programs and services as well as maintaining our facilities and equipment.

THE

YMCA

HERITAGE

CLUB

FOUNDATION

The YMCA’s Heritage Club is an Endowment Program which enables individuals to get allowable tax savings and other benefits through a variety of current and deferred gift endowment plans, outright gifts of cash or securities, trusts, insurance policies, a bequest in one’s will or through other considerations you feel are appropriate.

Future generations are depending on your support.

MEMORIALS

Sue Slavik

March 12, 1946 - October 19, 2003

Our community lost one of its treasures with the passing of Sue Slavik. Sue was not only Swim Coach for our YMCA Waves Swim team for about as many years as anyone can remember. She also coached countless young swimmers during the summer for the Coldwater Community Swim Team as well as the Celina High School Waterdogs Swim Team.

To the Celina High School Swimmers, Sue was known as “Mama Water Dog”. Sue’s passing leaves a tremendous void not only for us here at the Y, but for the hundreds of area swimmers throughout our communities. But Sue was much more than a coach. To the swimmers she was a mom, a friend, a teacher, a mentor, and if you got out of line…she was judge, jury, and executioner if you needed a little re-direction. Sue not only made you a better swimmer, she made you a better person.

Sue’s spirit will live on through the efforts of the coaches who will follow her and through the thousands of area swimmers and children in the Mercer County Head Start program where Sue worked, who were touched by her spirit and enthusiasm. Thank you Sue!

Memorial contributions can be made to the Sue Slavik Scholarship Fund.

Layne Scott Memorial Fund

First CEO of the Auglaize/Mercer

Counties YMCA

Layne was the first CEO of the Auglaize/Mercer Counties YMCA. He served this association from 1983 through 1987. Layne began his career at the Anderson, Indiana YMCA. He came to Auglaize/Mercer from Anderson. Layne then went from here to Cincinnati, Ohio where he was the Director of the M.E. Lyons YMCA in Cincinnati. Ten years later he accepted the challenge of CEO for the YMCA of Huntsville & North Alabama where he continued until his death on the 21st of June, 2003.

Layne was a great Christian leader, a leader in bringing Scuba instruction to our area, and an avid pilot. He died on Saturday June 21, 2003 when his ultra light plane crashed into a wheat field in Madison County, Alabama.

Layne is survived by his wife Karen and three children.

A memorial fund has been established through the Auglaize/Mercer Counties YMCA Foundation. Contributions can be made in care of the YMCA Foundation, P.O. Box 46, Minster, Ohio, 45865.
